Sacrament Preparation for Children
Sacrament Prep for Ages 7-18
Students receive special, intense preparation for Reconciliation, Holy Eucharist and Confirmation with the parent/guardian. Students in both the Parish School and Religious Education celebrate reception of the sacraments jointly.
Preparation for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist is a 2-year program, beginning in first grade. The sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist are received for the first time in the second grade. Confirmation preparation is also a 2-year program, beginning in the seventh grade. Candidates in both seventh and eighth grade participate in retreats, special events and complete Stewardship (service) hours. The sacrament of Confirmation is received in the eighth grade.
All candidates for sacraments (Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation) must provide a copy of their baptism certificate to the Religious Education office by October 31st. Baptism certificates can be faxed directly to our office at 402-861-4590 by the parish where your child was baptized.
Parent meetings are scheduled during the year so that parents may review the content of the preparation and deepen their own understanding of the sacrament being received. Please contact Mary Maguire at email@example.com with any questions concerning preparation or celebration of the sacraments.
First Holy Communion will be celebrated at St. Stephen’s on Sun., April 15, 2018 at 9 am, 12 noon and 3 pm.
A mandatory Parent Meeting will be held on Sun., Feb. 25, 2018 at 7:15 pm in the Dining Room.
A special blessing for those receiving First Holy Communion and their parents will be given at all Masses on Feb. 24/25th.

Journey of Faith Form
One of our favorite experiences in Religious Education at St. Stephen’s is welcoming children and families into the Catholic Church.
Children 7 years of age through age 18 who have not been baptized or who have been baptized in another faith can receive preparation for the sacraments through the Rite of Christian Initiation.
Children 3rd grade or older who have been baptized as a Catholic but have not received Reconciliation or Eucharist prepare for the sacraments by attending regular religious education classes and receive individual preparation in a group or with their parents. High School teens will receive special preparation through Youth Ministry.
If you have a child or teen that would like to become Catholic or has missed sacraments, please contact Mary Maguire at firstname.lastname@example.org for special preparation for the sacraments.
