Faithful Families: September

It’s always in the practice of loving that we can get better and better. Here are a few simple ways you and your family can practice putting your love in action this month.

Extend the Grace

When blessing your food before a meal, take a few extra seconds to bless the hands that helped bring the food forth from the earth to the market, into your kitchen, and onto your plate. It will help open our eyes to all of the people we serve and who serve us on a daily basis. Even though we may never have the pleasure of thanking these people face-to-face, surely, we can still give thanks to God for their efforts. What a blessing that God built us for community and service!

Backpack Prayer Reminder

Download and print out these Backpack Prayer Reminder Cards as your children begin another school year. They’re a fun and quick reminder that they are loved by God and created to love those around them. You can slip them in a lunch box, laminate them and tie them to their backpack, use it as a bookmark, or simply let them roll around with all of their other school papers inside.

Fun Saint Fact Worth Sharing

We celebrate the feast of St. Padre Pio this month on September 23rd. He was a devoted and humble priest who dedicated his life to serving others. He was known to have worked 19 hours a day and sleep very little to be able to minister to more people. God blessed him with many unique gifts including the ability to speak and understand languages he had never studied – just like the apostles!

Discuss as a family: What gifts has God blessed you with that make you unique?

“Pray, hope, and don’t worry. Worry is useless. God is merciful and will hear your prayer.” – Padre Pio
