The Pastor’s Connection – May 10, 2018

“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me; and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20

Dear Saint Stephen Families,

Last week, Father Mark McKercher shared the news with the parish that he has been asked by Archbishop Lucas to take a new assignment as the Senior Associate Pastor at Saint Robert Bellarmine Parish. We are grateful for the 6 years of faithful service that Father Mark has offered to our parish. We will certainly be making time to celebrate and say “thank you” to him over these next weeks, as he prepares to leave us.

This past week, Archbishop Lucas informed me that he is assigning a newly-ordained priest to Saint Stephen. Deacon Padraic Stack, who will be ordained a priest on June 2, will begin his duties here on June 30. He is very excited about coming to our parish, and I know that you will welcome him and pray for him. If you want to learn more about him, there is a biography page for all of our seminarians on the Archdiocese of Omaha webpage. It can be found under the “Ministries” tab.

Having a newly-ordained priest assigned to our parish is a great honor, but it is also a serious responsibility. Through your love, support, prayers, and guidance, Father Stack will come to learn the beauty and challenge of priestly ministry. Please continue to pray for the priests that serve Saint Stephen the Martyr Parish, and for the priests of the Archdiocese who will be moving to new assignments this summer. Beginning in a new parish or ministry is one of the most difficult elements of life as a diocesan priest. I know that you will be patient and supportive as we go through this time of transition.

In Christ,

Father Dave

We are in need of an individual to assist with our Noon Liturgies as a Sacristan.  This individual must be EMHC Mandated.  There are training opportunities in the Fall of 2018 where you could accomplish this .  Our Sacristans are crucial in preparing the Worship Space for the liturgy and ensuring that all supplies and people are in place at the start of the liturgy.  You would be joining a team of wonderful people that would train you and ensure that you are comfortable with the process prior to serving as a Sacristan on your own.  You would be scheduled approximately once every four to five Sundays.  If you are interested, please contact Karen Hardy at k.hardy@stephen.org or 402-861-4537.
