Faithful Families: April

Let’s Walk Together This Easter Season!

Celebrating Easter as a Family

You did it! Your family made it through the blessed season of Lent and has arrived at Easter! On this holiest day of the year, we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus.  Here are some ways to focus on the true meaning of Easter as a family.

Family Activity: Color Easter

Easter is a beautiful time for celebration! But, sometimes we can focus too much on worldly images of the season and not enough on Jesus. When we think of Easter we might imagine jelly beans, colored eggs, and the Easter Bunny. These are fun images, but they aren’t what Easter is really about.

Create an opportunity with your family to talk about the true meaning of Easter. This is a great way to open up discussion about the Resurrection of Christ.

Try this with your kids! Ask them what they imagine when they think of Easter. Listen to their responses. Do they think more about bunnies and eggs or more about Jesus and the empty tomb?

Afterward, take some time to talk about what Easter is really about. Talk about the different emotions the disciples experienced. Sadness at His Crucifixion, fear during His time in the tomb, and joy and amazement at the news of His Resurrection! Share with your kids what emotions you feel on Easter and ask them to share with you as well.

Here are a few ways you can bring Jesus into your Easter activities!
Before leaving the church after Mass on Easter, kneel down as a family and say a quick prayer inviting the Lord into the rest of your day
When coloring eggs, make sure to dye some red to remember the blood of Christ
Before your kids run off on your Easter egg hunt, read about how the disciples ran to the empty tomb in search of Jesus
Before eating your big Easter meal, pray as a family and thank the Lord for all He has blessed you with!
