Lent at St. Stephen the Martyr

Lent, a period of 40 days running from Ash Wednesday to Holy Saturday, excluding Sundays, is marked with the observances of prayer, fasting and almsgiving.

Prayer: We grow closer to God this Lent through prayer & penance. The Lord longs for you to come to Him in the Sacrament of Reconciliation!

Fasting: Jesus fasted for forty days in the desert and so we follow his example in our small way on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Fridays in Lent are days of abstinence where the Catholic community abstains from eating meat.

Almsgiving: Catholics are invited to increase their charitable giving during Lent to recognize Christ in others and fulfill the needs of others.
