Pro-abortion activists are leading an effort to amend the Nebraska Constitution this November, creating a right to late-pregnancy abortion. St. Stephen the Martyr Respect Life Ministry will host a presentation by pro-life champion, Marion Miner of Nebraska Catholic Conference, on Tuesday, May 21st at 7 PM in our Dining Room. Mr. Miner will discuss the pro-abortion ballot proposal and what pro-lifers can do to help defeat it. Light refreshments will be provided.
In response to the pro-abortion ballot initiative circulating throughout Nebraska, a group of medical professionals called “Protect Women and Children” launched an alternative pro-life ballot initiative in March.
Nebraska’s three bishops issued a joint statement explaining why Catholics can morally support the alternative effort.
Protect Women & Children must collect approximately 125,000 signatures from Nebraska registered voters by July 2 to qualify for the November ballot.

In November 2023, well-funded abortion groups certified constitutional amendment language with the Nebraska Secretary of State to create a right to late-pregnancy abortion in the Nebraska Constitution. Abortion activists are currently gathering signatures across Nebraska to put the issue before voters in November of 2024. Nebraskans need to know how this proposal is dangerous, deceptive, and demeaning, why it must be opposed, and how we can defeat it.
To view the full breakdown of the proposed language, download the Nebraska Catholic Conference’s one-page flyer: Where Does it Say That?

Pregnant and parenting moms in need are in our parishes and our neighborhoods. As Pope Francis reminds us, our parishes need to be “islands of mercy in the midst of a sea of indifference.” Everyone in the parish community should know where to refer a pregnant woman in need.
The 25th anniversary of Evangelium vitae gave us a wonderful opportunity to begin to assess, expand, and communicate resources to pregnant moms and families in need. Parishes are invited, through the support of their bishop and pastor, to join this nationwide effort entitled, Walking with Moms in Need.
