Wednesday, April 9th
Join us for the 11th Annual Catholics at the Capitol on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, from 8 AM – 3 PM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in downtown Lincoln! This is your chance to live out your faith in action, learning how to advocate effectively for policies that protect life, uphold family values, and promote justice for the common good.
This year’s theme, “Courage of the Saints,” reminds us that we stand on the shoulders of countless faithful who boldly defended truth in the public square. Their strength inspires us to engage in advocacy with both conviction and charity.
Venerable Fulton Sheen encouraged the faithful to spiritually adopt someone who was vulnerable and pray for them. Here at St. Stephen the Martyr, we are doing a Spiritual Adoption Project for unborn children.
Many parents experience the sad loss of a child before birth, due to miscarriage or even to abortion. We invite you to pray a child to birth – asking God for health of the baby, and to give the parents of these children the grace they need. Only God knows which child needs your prayers, but your prayers are powerful!
Sign up to commit to praying for nine months from January-October. Monthly resources will be emailed to help you pray for the child! You can still join the project here: Sign Up Here
I, ____________________________, will pray daily:
Jesus, Mary and Joseph
I love you very much.
I pray to you for the unborn child
that I have spiritually adopted
whose life and health is in danger.
Baby’s Name: _____________(choose a name for your baby)
Due Date: Our Spiritual Adoption Program will end in October, capped with the many pro-life activities during Respect Life Month.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to protect our named baby in its mother’s womb. Please give the parents of these children the help they need to keep their babies strong and healthy. Amen.
Your spiritually adopted baby has been making progress developing his/her external features and internal organs. His/her brain is functioning at 40 days. His/her mother can hear the heartbeat now on an ultrasonic stethoscope. His/her milk-teeth buds are present at 6 1/2 weeks.
And it has been reported that a tw0-month old baby can suck his/her thumb. From this moment onward, your spiritually adopted baby grows and refines his body.
But everything he/she needs to survive once he is born is already present by the end of the eighth week. At 2 months the fetus is about 1 inch long and weighs less than 1/3 ounce. He/she begins to move, although the mother cannot yet feel it.
This fetus is a distinct human being with a unique genetic code, and therefore possesses inherent dignity and the right to life! Thank you for praying for my precious life to be spared!
Thank you for spiritually adopting and praying for your unborn baby.

Pregnant and parenting moms in need are in our parishes and our neighborhoods. As Pope Francis reminds us, our parishes need to be “islands of mercy in the midst of a sea of indifference.” Everyone in the parish community should know where to refer a pregnant woman in need.
The 25th anniversary of Evangelium vitae gave us a wonderful opportunity to begin to assess, expand, and communicate resources to pregnant moms and families in need. Parishes are invited, through the support of their bishop and pastor, to join this nationwide effort entitled, Walking with Moms in Need.
