How did you get started volunteering at St. Stephen the Martyr?

When I retired, I thought I should do volunteer work, so I signed up to help with the funeral luncheons. Now it’s been four years! Our committee helps with about 2 funerals a month and about 22 a year. Anita Finger and Kay Dye are the other co-chairs. We make a great team!

What do you enjoy most about volunteering?

It’s rewarding especially when a family-member comes up and says “thank you”. That’s what it is about – serving Christ in serving these families during this difficult time. We help throughout the whole planning process for the lunch—I talk through what we provide and the families are always so appreciative and grateful to have our expertise.

What does St. Stephen the Martyr mean to you?

When we moved from Ralston we knew instantly this was our Parish. It’s family!

Do you have any advice to other parishioners looking to give?

Everyone is so busy with our own routines. You just have to put yourself out there. When you do, you feel good about yourself. Serving others is the right thing to do and what we are called to do.
