Become an Altar Server
In order to strengthen formation and invite more young parishioners into this sacred ministry, we are formally introducing a new Apprentice Server rank, which now allows eligible 4th grade students (starting their second semester) to begin serving at the altar. Apprentice Servers are given the opportunity to learn the Mass, observe closely, and grow in reverence under the guidance of experienced Senior and Master Servers.
In conjunction with this addition, the parish has also adopted updated altar server roles, ranks, and expectations. These changes are designed to provide clearer structure, thoughtful progression, and deeper formation for all servers as they grow in skill, responsibility, and faith. Serving at the altar is not simply a task, but a sacred privilege—one that places our servers close to the mystery of the Eucharist and calls them to serve with reverence, focus, and dignity.
Training Sessions for New Servers
Training is open to all new altar servers, including:
- New 4th grade Apprentice Servers
- Older students who are new to the ministry
Training typically lasts approximately one hour, depending on the number of attendees. During training, servers will be introduced to:
- The meaning and importance of serving at Mass
- Basic posture, responses, and expectations
- An overview of server roles and progression
- Next steps for observation and scheduling
To ensure we are prepared for each session, parents are required to RSVP in advance.
